Experiences will be limited to guests who are staying at least 1 night on the farm this summer. This is temporary, because we need most of our staff to work on the property upgrade.

We want to ensure we deliver the best service to our guests that we can. We are really looking forward to fully reopening for everybody to enjoy, please bear with us in the meantime.

We are really excited to put on an event for the Hawke's Bay community as soon as we can as a special thank you for the patience and support we've received.

Guided Fishing

Fish the upper Mohaka River, Tuki Tuki or Rangitaiki with world (and New Zealand) fly fishing champion, Noah Shapiro. Whether you're a pro, beginner or somewhere in between, Noah is here to give you an experience you will love on our beautiful local waters. Various ways to fish including raft-fishing and heli-fishing.

Horse trekking at Mohaka River Farm, Hawke's Bay NZ

Horse treks

December, 2025 is the opening of our two all-new horse trekking tracks. The new tracks have been created on neighboring properties, which have allowed for entirely new experiences for our horse trekking guests. We have two half-day options: one for beginners or returning riders, the other is for more confident riders and includes some reasonably challenging terrain, including a river crossing.

Hunting

Designated bush and tree covered land is freely available a short drive from our property where you can hunt the elusive Sika Deer. This is fast, exciting hunting and it's hassle-free too. For longer, more intrepid hunting adventures we can arrange transport (including helicopters), hunting guides, and everything required for some of New Zealand's finest hunting experiences nearby.

Pottery classes at Mohaka River Farm, Hawke's Bay

Pottery Classes

There is nothing quite like the feeling of wet clay between your fingers. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced pottery artisan you're welcome to enjoy the therapeutic, fulfilling benefits of our pottery classes here on the farm. All pottery is on a wheel and sgraffito is available. Anything you make you would like to keep, we will dry and prepare for you then courier it to your home.

Knife making lessons

Knife Making

Make your own knife with local knife making legend Kelvin, who's been plying his craft for 20 years. Kelvin ensures his students make knives they can use, so even if you never make a knife again you will walk away from this 8 hour course with a quality knife you made yourself, with high-carbon European steel. Choose the style you make - for filleting, hunting, or a general purpose kitchen knife.

Timber to home tours - learn everything that goes into creating New Zealand's most beautiful timber frame homes

Log to home tours

Have you or a loved one ever wondered what goes into making a beautiful home from timber? This summer, with our parters NZ Grown and Heritage Timbercraft we'll be giving our guests the opportunity to see the entire process up close. Spend time in the timber yard, learn how select logs are milled and air dried, gain an understanding of New Zealand timber tree species, how timber is selected for different uses - like which is for beams or cladding - sawmilling, profiling machines, right up to a tour inside finished timber frame barn homes here on the property. For the casual timber enthusiast through to seasoned carpenters this is a fun and interesting tour we know you will love.
